The Pitt Alumni Association (PAA) presents two upper-class undergraduate students and one graduate student with Spirit of Pitt awards during Homecoming Week, recognizing a commitment to academic excellence, community service and the PAA’s values.
The students with the most votes from their peers will each receive a Spirit of Pitt award and $2,000 in student resource funds.
Candidates for the Spirit of Pitt award will go through the following selection process:
All applicants must adhere to the following policies and procedures. Students who violate any of these policies will be disqualified, and the appropriate departments will be notified to determine disciplinary actions.
Candidates who receive the most votes will be awarded a $2,000 resource award, sponsored by the PAA. These funds are credited to the student’s Pitt Funds Me account by the second week of the spring semester and automatically applied to tuition, class fees and other academic-related expenses.
Resource Fund Eligibility Clause: The PAA, with support from the Office of Financial Aid (OFA), confirms the eligibility of Spirit of Pitt recipients for resource funds. If a student is determined to be ineligible, they must select a recognized Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) organization in good standing to receive the funds. The organization must meet eligibility requirements, and funds must be allocated to initiatives that align with Spirit of Pitt’s core goals.
Funds are allocated to initiatives that align with the program's goals of alumni engagement, school spirit and professional development:
